UFC Fight Night: Hall vs. Strickland Betting Guide
Our wave crashed on last week's betting guide. Time to get back up and do it all again. Originally had 5 picks but Sam Alvey vs. Roman Kopylov and Shamil Abdurakhimov vs. Chris Daukaus were canceled. Dealing with a little concussion, bare with me on the UFC Vegas 33 breakdown.
Uriah Hall (+180) vs. Sean Strickland (-220)
Not sure if it’s Vegas or the concussion causing me head pain. How does a wrestler turn striker open as a huge favorite against Uriah Hall? I understand Hall gets in his own head sometimes, causing him to look like a shell of what he can be. But come on, Sean Strickland is the perfect match up.
Recently Sean Strickland’s tactic has been to move forward and overwhelm his opponents with constant pressure. If Uriah Hall is on, he is one of the best strikers in the division. Which should mean he'd have no problem dealing with brute pressure. Plus having a notable 3.5-inch reach advantage should help him take angles and pick Strickland apart.
Everything depends on if Uriah Hall overcomes the man in the mirror. If he can, this bet is as good as gold.
Pick: Uriah Hall
Kyung Ho Kang (-135) vs. Rani Yahya (+115)
While the UFC strived during the height of the pandemic, Kyung Ho Kang decided not to compete. Nothing against that, your health should be your number one priority. However, that means Kang has not fought since 2019. 2019 feels like decades ago. Before the pandemic, Kang was not beating guys in a dominant fashion. The last two wins came by split decision.
On the other hand, Rani Yahya has been active during the pandemic. His last fight resulting in a second round submission win 4 months ago. Once Yahya gets you to the ground he is a tricky puzzle to solve. Never the less train and prepare for. Yahya's striking has come a long way over the years which seems to catch guys off guard.
The value of Rani Yahya is too good to pass on. Especially seeing he has been the more active fighter.
Pick: Rani Yahya
Trevin Jones (+130) vs. Ronnie Lawrence (-150)
If history has taught us anything, it is to never bet against Trevin Jones. Jones debut as a massive +450 underdog. Not only did he win, but he also knocked his opponent out in the second round. In Jones’s second UFC appearance he was again the underdog at +200. Again Jones knocked his opponent out in the second round.
Now we get the opportunity to bet on Trevin Jones as the underdog once more. It’s important to learn from history, don't be that guy who bets against Trevin Jones.
